Baldrs Draumar or Baldr’s Dreams’ is a crucial initiatory Eddic poem. It is the lore of prophetic dreams, of ritual death and rites of rebirth, of the Prophetic power of the völva and the cthtonic mysteries of the abyss. We present three comparative, open source translations, in a beautiful presentation for meditation, contemplation, and ritual. There is also the transliteration in Old Norse for ritual recitation and research.

The baleful dreams that plague the innocent Baldr trouble the Gods. The prophecy is grim, the cycles of the worlds use even the immortal ones as mechanisms of fate. This wyrdful life, this wolf’s age, this bloody realm mid way between Hel and Asgard… It is where the Mysteries of life and death, of spirit and matter, of mortality and immortality comingle and are comixt. We are conduit to the Gods, proxies to divine forces. What Odin whispers in Baldr’s ear is the ancestral secret of Eternal Return, of yearning and hope realized after the storm and thunder of suffering and death.

Such lessons are only learned through such exquisite loss and anguish, in sacrifice, in the lessons of blind spots to manipulation that cascade into tragedy and worldless sorrow. The central motif of the entire lore and mythos, the Master Narrative of initiation are all present within this deeply moving poem. The triangulation of translations allows a penetrating depth to meaning, as the slight differences infuse a life and aroma like new life into old words. So fragile is innocence, so precarious is life, how easy to descend into a nightmare. The ancestral wisdom, the ghosts of time whisper through the ages to urge us to not waste a minute of this precious incarnation.
